OVERVIEW OF THE FUNCTIONS OF THE POST
The UNESCO Regional Office in New Delhi covers Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and the Maldives. UNESCO New Delhi's Culture Sector works to safeguard South Asia's rich cultural heritage. Its efforts span the protection of Cultural Heritage for which UNESCO collaborates closely with the government, local communities, and civil society. Notably, through the extra budgetary projects Rural Crafts and Cultural Hubs (RCCH) in West Bengal and Promotion of Intangible Cultural Heritage and Developing Cultural Tourism in Rajasthan, UNESCO aims to safeguard communities living heritage while fostering economic development. Strategic communication plays a pivotal role in maximizing the impact of these initiatives. It engages local communities and raises awareness. UNESCO efforts in safeguarding cultural heritage while fostering sustainable development, a well-crafted communication strategy is essential. This strategy must effectively curate and disseminate content across diverse media platforms, ensuring that the objectives and benefits of the initiatives resonate deeply with both local stakeholders and a global audience.

Scope of Work
Under the overall authority of the Director of the UNESCO Regional Office for Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and the Maldives and the supervision of the Chief of the Culture Sector , the incumbent is responsible for developing, planning, and managing Strategic communication role in maximizing the impact of these initiatives, working in close coordination with Communication and Public Engagement (CPE).
1. Assist the Project Team in Content Development
Develop talking points, press releases, opinion editorials, and multimedia content that effectively convey the significance of safeguarding of heritage.
Serve as a key storyteller, translating complex programmatic output and outcomes into relatable narratives for diverse audiences
2. Assist in Digital and Social Media Management
Develop and manage content for websites and social media platforms of extrabudgetary projects and UNESCO, New-Delhi to enhance visibility.
Track and analyze social media performance to ensure alignment with broader communication goals, responding to inquiries and feedback as necessary.

3. Assist in Media and Public Relations
Prepare media advisories and press releases to highlight key milestones in the Culture Sector's work.
Cultivate relationships with media representatives and stakeholders to enhance coverage and support for the Culture Sector's initiatives.
4. Assist in Cross-Functional Coordination with the Communication and Public Engagement (CPE) Sector
Collaborate with UNESCO's CPE sector and culture team to ensure the consistent integration of communication efforts across various cultural projects.
Coordinate with other sectors for any intersectoral work related to Culture.
5. Coordination with Stakeholders
Coordinate with the project partners like government bodies and NGOs for developing communication material of assigned projects.
6. Knowledge Dissemination
Assist the sector in collating reports, case studies, documentation, or other content related to the projects for knowledge dissemination to various stakeholders.
Perform any other duties as requested by the Director of the Office and the Chief of the Culture Sector.

Education
Completed secondary, technical and/or vocational education.
Work experience
Minimum 2 (two) years relevant professional experience in the field of communication and social media.
Work experience in supporting project management and coordination.
Languages
Excellent knowledge (written and spoken) of English and Hindi
Skills and Knowledge
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to draft clearly and concisely and sensitivity to the local context
Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships in a multicultural environment, both within and outside the Organization and to work effectively in a team environment.
Ability to manage heavy workloads and meet tight deadlines, paying close attention to detail and quality of work.
IT Skills :
Strong IT skills including good knowledge of standard office software
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Education
Advanced university degree (bachelor's degree or equivalent) in mass communication, or relevant fields.
Work Experience
Previous experience in the organization of national-level cultural projects/events.
Skills and Competencies
Ability to work in partnership with a wide range of national, regional, and international organizations.
APPLICATION PROCESS
Duration of contract
The duration of the contract is 1 year with a probation period of 3 months, with the possibility of extension depending on the availability of funds and the performance of the candidate.
Assessment
An assessment exercise may be used in the evaluation of candidates.
Benefits and Entitlement
UNESCO's salaries consist of a basic salary and other benefits which may include if applicable: 30 days of annual leave, 24 days of certified sick leave, etc.
