The Commis 1 is an entry-level position in the kitchen and plays an essential role in assisting senior kitchen staff with food preparation and maintaining a clean and organized kitchen environment. This position requires a keen interest in cooking, an ability to follow recipes and instructions, and a commitment to food safety and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities:
• Food Preparation:
• Assist with food prep tasks including chopping, peeling, dicing, and measuring ingredients.
• Prepare and cook basic dishes or components under supervision, following recipes and instructions from the Chef de Partie or Sous Chef.
• Ensure all dishes are prepared to the highest standard, with attention to presentation, portion control, and taste.
• Kitchen Organization:
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of kitchen stations, ensuring that equipment and ingredients are readily available for use.
• Ensure that all food items are stored correctly, and that the kitchen environment is safe and hygienic.
• Rotate stock to minimize waste and maintain freshness.
• Cooking & Station Support:
• Work in different kitchen stations (e.g., grill, fryer, vegetable prep) as required, ensuring all duties are carried out efficiently and with close attention to detail.
• Help senior kitchen staff with the timely production of menu items, assisting with preparation and cooking as necessary.
• Safety & Hygiene:
• Adhere to all health and safety regulations, including proper handling and storage of food, as well as cleanliness standards.
• Maintain personal hygiene standards and wear appropriate kitchen attire.
• Training and Development:
• Take part in training sessions to improve culinary skills and knowledge of kitchen operations.
• Learn new cooking techniques, equipment handling, and the overall workings of the kitchen to assist with career growth.
Qualifications and Skills:
• Experience:
• Previous experience in a kitchen or culinary environment is mandatory
• Education:
• Culinary training or relevant qualification is required
• Skills & Abilities:
• Basic knowledge of kitchen equipment, cooking techniques, and food safety.
• Strong attention to detail, especially with regard to food preparation and presentation.
• Ability to work well in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
• Good communication and teamwork skills.

• Passion for food and cooking.
• Willingness to learn and take direction from senior kitchen staff.
• Reliable, punctual, and hardworking.
Working Conditions:
