A commis 1, or commis chef, is a kitchen worker who prepares food and assists other chefs. Their responsibilities include:
• Food preparation: Preparing ingredients, cooking, and plating food
• Kitchen maintenance: Cleaning, organizing, and stocking the kitchen
• Quality control: Ensuring food quality and consistency, and following food safety regulations
• Communication: Working with other chefs, wait staff, and supervisors
• Customer service: Providing efficient and appropriate customer service
• Training: Educating and guiding junior chefs
• Compliance: Following company policies and procedures, and local laws regarding food handling and alcohol service
• Flexibility: Working in different dining outlets and being able to work in a fast-paced environment
