Job Summary:
The Commi 1 in the Indian Kitchen is responsible for preparing high-quality Indian dishes while ensuring the highest standards of hygiene and cleanliness in the kitchen. This role involves assisting senior chefs, preparing ingredients, cooking dishes, and maintaining kitchen operations. The Commi 1 will play a crucial role in delivering exceptional culinary experiences to guests.
Key Responsibilities:
• Food Preparation:
• Assist in the preparation and cooking of a wide variety of Indian dishes according to recipes and standards.
• Ensure all ingredients are prepared, measured, and portioned correctly.
• Maintain consistency in food quality, taste, and presentation.
• Kitchen Operations:
• Support senior chefs in daily kitchen operations, including mise en place and cooking.
• Ensure that kitchen workstations are clean, organized, and well-stocked at all times.
• Follow standard operating procedures and kitchen policies.
• Quality Control:
• Monitor and maintain the quality of ingredients and food products.
• Conduct regular checks to ensure food safety and hygiene standards are met.
• Report any issues related to food quality or kitchen equipment to the Chef de Partie or Sous Chef.
• Collaboration and Teamwork:
• Work closely with other kitchen staff to ensure smooth and efficient kitchen operations.
• Communicate effectively with colleagues to coordinate tasks and ensure timely food preparation.
• Assist in training and mentoring junior kitchen staff as needed.
• Compliance and Safety:
• Adhere to all health and safety regulations and food safety standards.
• Ensure proper handling and storage of food to prevent contamination.
• Use kitchen equipment and tools safely and responsibly.
• Inventory Management:
• Assist in inventory control and stock management.
• Monitor stock levels and report any shortages or excesses to the Chef de Partie or Sous Chef.
• Assist in receiving and inspecting deliveries to ensure quality and quantity of supplies.
Qualifications:
• Education:
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Formal culinary training or certification from a recognized institution is preferred.
• Experience:
• Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in a similar role, preferably in an Indian kitchen.
• Experience in a hotel or fine dining restaurant is an advantage.
• Skills:
• Strong knowledge of Indian cuisine and cooking techniques.
• Ability to follow recipes and instructions accurately.
• Excellent knife skills and proficiency in kitchen equipment.
• Good communication and teamwork skills.
