Job Summary:

The Coding Quality Assurance (QA) Specialist is primarily responsible for determining the appropriate CPT and ICD-10 codes to be applied to patient accounts for billing purposes based on providers\xe2\x80\x99 documentation in the patient\xe2\x80\x99s medical record.

Essential Functions and Tasks:

Assigns appropriate billing codes to patient accounts. Performs ongoing analysis of medical record documentation for completeness.
Provides feedback to Coders on coding discrepancies.
Provides feedback to Coding Supervisor on documentation deficiencies.
Performs special projects and other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience Requirements:

High School Diploma or Equivalent.
Four (4) years of Emergency Department (ED) and Hospitalist Medicine coding experience.
Certified Professional Coder (CPC), or equivalent, preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy.
Knowledge of the requirements of medical record documentation.
Strong database software skills.
Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
Strong time management skills.
Strong organizational skills.
Ability to read, understand, and apply state/federal laws, regulations, and policies.
Ability to remain flexible and work within a collaborative and fast paced environment.
Ability to communicate with diverse personalities in a tactful, mature, and professional manner.
