The Clinical Radiotherapy Physics Research Scientist will be part of the Applied Innovation Program team aiming to foster applied research in the field. Among the focus initiatives of the team, we provide clinical and technical advice and expertise to various internal and external partners. Additionally, the team aims to contribute to evidence generation, knowledge sharing and scientific production in the domain of clinical medical physics.
Responsibilities
Under the direction and coordination of the AIP management the Clinical Radiotherapy Physics Research Scientist will be responsible of the following (but not limited to):
  • Being a key expert in radiotherapy physics for the Radiation Oncology Medical Affairs division.
  • Being a key expert lead in treatment planning to support internal and external initiatives and projects, including cooperation and partnership with the Treatment planning and Technology teams when required.
  • Being a reference clinical physics expert and advisor to other departments (e.g. the Advanced Oncology Solutions, the Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, the Marketing and the Education teams) supporting there key initiatives.
  • Liaise with external customers to facilitate clinical introduction of new products
  • Liaise with the Medical Science Liaison teams (globally) to support the definition of appropriate research project with external investigators, take part of the project revision teams.
  • The position will require to be active part in several experimental projects with the aim of appraising and testing advanced clinical (planning) tools.

Requirements
  • Demonstrated expertise with Varian delivery and treatment planning platforms
  • Strong relationships skills, with internal and customer partners
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills (English. Any other language is a plus)
  • Extensive ability to analyze, organize information, develop solutions and implement
  • Excellent presentation and follow-up skills
  • Ability to create concise and accurate documentation for internal purposes, and for the scientific community.
  • Well organized, self-motivated, team and solutions-oriented
  • Must work well in collaborative, cross-functional scenarios.
  • Must be able to manage multiple simultaneous projects to successful completion.
  • Conduct all activities and interactions with the highest ethical and professional standards, ensuring all work is accomplished with quality and in accordance with Varians values, legal and regulatory requirements, codes of conduct, and standard operating procedures.
  • Up to 20% travel expected (globally, occasionally including a weekend)

Essential qualifications
  • Advanced degree in Physics or Medical Physics, minimum MSc; PhD a plus. Equivalent degrees will be assessed on a case by case basis.
  • Board certification in Radiation Oncology Medical Physics (or equivalent) by at least one national or international organization.
  • 5-10 years of proven clinical experience in radiation oncology treatment planning
