Fellow - Biochemistry

Conceptualized in the year 2004 as a philanthropic initiative for the Eastern and North-Eastern


parts of India and the neighbouring countries, the Tata Medical Center (TMC) started operations in


Kolkata on May 16, 2011. The hospital is governed by a charitable trust - Tata Medical Centre Trust.


It is an integrated Oncology facility with well-trained professional staff and equipped with modern


facilities and the most contemporary medical equipment. The hospital was designed by Cannon


Design, a renowned architectural firm from North America. It is located on 13 acres of land at New


Town in Kolkata, West Bengal.

beds, serves all sections of the society, with 75% of the infrastructure earmarked for subsidized


treatment for the underprivileged sections. It provides a wide spectrum of services from diagnosis


and therapy to rehabilitation and palliative support. The Institution's objective is to excel in service,


education and research.


Tata Medical Center, Kolkata, has strived to be one of the leading cancer care and research


institutions in the country and has benefited West Bengal as well as the adjoining states and


neighbouring countries.


TMC is also running many academic programmes and has entered into institutional collaborations


in education, research, and outreach Programmes in the field of interdisciplinary medical, research


and technology


To fulfil the above objectives TMC invites applications for the following position:


1. Fellowship in Biochemistry





Qualification: MD/DNB in Biochemistry from an MCI recognized organization.


Candidates who have already passed their MD examination can only apply.


Applications will not be accepted from candidates who are yet to obtain their


degree.


Duration of Fellowship: One Year; extendable on a yearly basis upto three years.




The remuneration will be commensurate with years of experience and comparable to the best


institutes in the country.

















Introduction to the Department

The department of Biochemistry is an integral part of Tata Medical Center and provides 24 x 7


Clinical Biochemistry services to the institute. It is equipped with state of the art instruments for


analysis of metabolic panels, tumor markers, hormones, serum electrophoresis, immunofixation


electrophoresis, nephelometry, and high performance liquid chromatography and tandem mass


spectrometry services. The department is involved in various academic activities such as seminars


and CMEs. It is the recipient of a DBT grant and provides research supports to clinical departments


as well. There is a strong involvement with various oncology departments in interpretation of


reports and clinico-chemical correlations. It has also taken part in national and international


conferences and fellowships. The department is accredited by NABL as per the ISO 15189:2012.


The department will provide an excellent opportunity for combined on-hands training in clinical


biochemistry and research experience.


Fellowship specifics for Biochemistry

1. On-hands training in dry chemistry systems.
?

Diagnostic use of routine metabolite analysis or metabolic panels in various disciplines of


oncology.


2. Analysis of tumor markers and other immunoassays (ELFA/CLIA techniques)
?

Importance in serial monitoring, prognosis and assessment of effectiveness in therapy


3. Laboratory quality management


Extensive training in:
?

Conduct of internal audits
?

Evaluation of internal and external quality assurance programmes
?

Developing standard operating procedures
?

Management of laboratory processes
?

Inventory management


4. Participation in Clinical rounds, Multidisciplinary meetings, Seminars


5. On-hands experience in liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry systems


6. Training in therapeutic drug monitoring


The fellow will be required to authorize results and assist the consultant in day to day activities of


the department. He/She shall have the opportunity to present posters in national conferences and


draft papers for publication.
