Job Title: Chief Executive Officer: RUDILocation: AhmedabadNature of work: Full-timeExperience required: 4-5 years in a similar position; 15+ years in a leadership role(s)BackgroundMost rural households rely not just on one source of income for their everyday needs. A 2019s situational assessment report shows income from crop husbandry is just 37% of the total income, and the remaining comes from various other activities. Within crop husbandry too, farmers cultivate multiple crops - often subjected to numerous uncertainties. Therefore, creating sustainable livelihoods needs a comprehensive approach i.e., working on both crop husbandry and supplementary income-generating activities. To this end, RUDI - a social enterprise promoted by SEWA, is attempting to brick various entities together and create an ecosystem to create sustainable livelihood opportunities for rural households.About SEWA:The Self Employed Womens Association [SEWA] is a Central Trade Union organising women workers of the informal economy since 1972 with a twin goal of full employment and self-reliance. SEWA has adopted an approach of struggle and development. Struggle in the sense of organising workers for VOICE, VISIBILITY, and VALIDATION and development by building their capacities and institutions.SEWA has grown into a family of member-owned economic organisations that provide livelihood security, reduce vulnerability & lead to the economic empowerment of its members. SEWA organises its members, based on their trades and skills, into their own economic organisations - collectives, cooperatives, federations, and producer companies; where members are not just workers, but owners and managers of their own microenterprises. This leads to capital formation and asset creation, economic empowerment, and increased bargaining power thereby bringing these members into the mainstream economy. SEWA is a family of several member-owned economic organisations including 4000 Self Help Groups (SHGs), 110 cooperatives, 15 economic federations, and 3 producer companies.RUDI and KamIa are two of several such entities at SEWA.About RUDI:RUDI was started in 2006 with the objective to provide livelihood opportunities to SEWA's members, establishing market linkages for agricultural producers, processing the food grains, and selling the products at an affordable price to low-income households. Currently, the company sells groceries in rural and semi-urban areas and has plans to start its operations in urban areas too.About Nirantar SEWA:Nirantar SEWA is a 360-degree transformation plan for SEWA that would take a phased, systematic approach to enable SEWA to expand its membership base across India and significantly improve its service offerings. A key objective of Nirantar SEWA is to scale up SEWAs social enterprises business, which is into selling agricultural commodities, apparel, products made from recycled material, and green-energy solutions.Role and Responsibilities:Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Creating, communicating, and implementing the organisation's vision, mission, and overall direction.
  • Engaging with critical external stakeholders to create opportunities for the enterprise.
  • Oversees the day-to-day ongoing operations of all projects and enterprises under the ambit of RUDI Multi Trading Company Limited.
  • Manages and directs the company toward its primary goals and objectives.
  • Promotes communication and cooperation among divisions to create a spirit of unity in the organisation.
  • Work closely with Human Resources (HR) regarding hiring practices, payroll, and benefit disbursement.
  • Ensure High customer satisfaction. Measure customer satisfaction through surveys, feedback, reviews, and ratings.
  • Collaborate with other executives, managers, and employees to identify meaningful solutions
  • Leads a team of executives to consider major decisions including acquisitions, mergers, joint ventures, or large-scale expansion.
  • Mentor and interact with staff members at all levels to foster growth and encourage development amongst the team.
  • Works with the board of directors and other executives to establish short-term objectives and long-range goals, and related plans and policies.
  • Presents regular reports on the status of the company's operations to the board of directors and to company staff.
Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Oversees the organisation's financial structure, ensuring adequate and sound funding for the mission and goals of the company.
  • Build trusted relations with key partners and stakeholders and act as a point of contact for important shareholders like Nirantar SEWA, district associations, donors, partners, etc.
  • Reviews the financial results of all operations, comparing them with the company's objectives and taking appropriate measures to correct unsatisfactory performance and results.
  • Ensures the company's compliance with all applicable laws, rules, regulations, and standards.
  • Negotiates with other companies regarding actions such as mergers, acquisitions, or joint ventures.
  • Serves as the company's representative to the board of directors, shareholders, employees, customers, the government, and the public.
  • Performs other related duties to benefit the mission of the organisation.
Required Skills/Abilities:
  • Excellent managerial and financial skills and the ability to take leadership over any business operations area such as marketing, finance, PR, etc.
  • In-depth knowledge of corporate governance and general management best practices
  • Analytical abilities and problem-solving skills
  • Experience in the promotion of process improvement and forecasting
  • Budget preparation and development
  • Superlative communication skills, particularly the ability to communicate as a leader.
  • Thorough understanding of management and financial practices in all areas and phases of business operations.
Education and Experience:
  • Extensive professional experience in leadership roles.
  • Experience in developing profitable strategies and implementing the vision
  • Strong understanding of corporate finance and performance management principles
  • Education may vary; an advanced degree in business administration, management, finance, or law is preferred
Remuneration: Commensurate to experience and market standards
