Key Responsibilities:
1. Cash Management: Accept payments from customers using various payment methods such as cash, credit/debit cards, mobile wallets, and gift cards.
2. Issuing Receipts: Provide customers with accurate receipts, change, and necessary documentation after completing a transaction.
3. Processing Returns and Exchanges: Handle returns, exchanges, and refunds as per the store or business policy.
4. Scanning and Pricing Items: In retail, scan items, ensure accurate pricing, and apply any discounts or offers where applicable.
5. Ensuring Accuracy: Double-check amounts entered into the register to ensure the correct total is charged to the customer.
6. Providing Assistance: Greet and assist customers in a friendly and professional manner, answering any queries they may have.
7. Resolving Issues: Handle customer complaints or concerns with a calm and positive attitude, escalating issues to the supervisor if needed.
8. Promoting Store Offers: Inform customers about ongoing promotions, loyalty programs, or new products/services when appropriate.
9. Maintaining a Positive Experience: Ensure customers leave the establishment satisfied with their experience.
10. Cash Handling: Safely handle cash, ensure it is counted accurately, and store it securely.
11. Cash Drawer Management: Keep the cash drawer balanced and report discrepancies, if any, to the supervisor or manager immediately.
12. End-of-Shift Reporting: At the end of the shift, reconcile the register, counting the cash and comparing it with the sales records to ensure no discrepancies.
13. Daily Reports: In some settings, prepare or assist in preparing daily sales reports, summarizing transactions and sales totals.
14. Identifying Counterfeit Money: Be vigilant in identifying counterfeit notes or fraudulent payment methods.
15. Reporting Suspicious Activities: Report any suspicious activity or potential theft to management promptly.
16. Safeguard sensitive customer information, especially in environments where electronic payments are made.
17. Working with Supervisors/Managers: Communicate with managers regarding inventory, customer feedback, or any problems encountered during the shift.
Common Qualifications:
Education: Typically, a high school diploma or equivalent is required. Some positions may require additional certifications in retail or finance.
Experience: Previous experience in cashiering, retail, or customer service is often preferred but not always necessary. Training is commonly provided on the job.
