Responsibilities The DoP is in charge of the camera and lighting crews, and is responsible for the look and feel of the production. They work with the director to establish the visual style, and are responsible for the technical aspects of the production, such as camera movements, lighting, and composition. Skills A DoP should have a strong technical knowledge of cameras, lenses, and lighting, as well as an artistic vision and an eye for detail. They should also have strong leadership, communication, and teamwork skills. Collaboration DoPs work closely with the director to understand the creative vision for the production. They may also consult on color-grading. Blocking DoPs work with the director to decide how to shoot each scene, including where to position the actors, equipment, and lighting. Camera selection DoPs select the cameras, lenses, and filters to be used on a shoot. They may also identify specialty cameras, such as underwater or 360 cameras.
