• Digital Design : Using CAD software (Computer-Aided Design), you design dental restorations such as crowns, bridges, veneers, and dentures based on digital impressions or scans of patients' teeth and gums. This involves understanding dental anatomy and aesthetics to create precise and functional designs.
• CAD Software Proficiency : You need to be proficient in CAD software specific to dental applications, such as 3Shape, exocad, or Dental Wings. This software allows you to manipulate digital models, design restorations, and ensure proper fit and function.
• Material Selection : Choosing appropriate materials for each restoration based on the dentist's prescription, patient preferences, and functional requirements. This includes materials like ceramics, metals, or composite resins.
• CAM Manufacturing : After designing the restoration digitally, you translate the digital design into a physical object using CAM (Computer-Aided Manufacturing) technology. This involves operating milling machines or 3D printers to produce the dental prosthetics.
• Quality Assurance : Inspecting the finished prosthetics to ensure they meet the required specifications in terms of fit, aesthetics, and functionality. This step is crucial to ensure that the prosthetics are of high quality and suitable for the patient's needs.
• Collaboration : Working closely with dentists, prosthodontists, and dental technicians to understand patient cases, discuss design requirements, and ensure that the prosthetics meet the patient's expectations.
• Technical Maintenance : Performing routine maintenance on CAD/CAM equipment and troubleshooting any technical issues that arise during the design or manufacturing process to minimize downtime.
• Documentation : Keeping detailed records of each patient's case, including design specifications, materials used, and any adjustments made during the manufacturing process.
Overall, as a CAD/CAM technician in dental technology, you play a vital role in leveraging technology to create precise, functional, and aesthetically pleasing dental prosthetics that contribute to the overall oral health and well-being of patients.
