Job Description

The Cable Jointer is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical or telecommunication cables. They work with both high- and low-voltage cables, ensuring they are safely joined, connected, or repaired to meet regulatory standards and ensure the reliability of electrical supply or telecommunications services.

Key Responsibilities:

• Cable Installation & Jointing:
• Carry out jointing of medium and low-voltage power cables, ensuring compliance with industry standards and safety regulations.
• Install and join cables for both new installations and maintenance projects.
• Work with various types of cables (e.g., armoured, non-armoured, high-voltage, and low-voltage cables) and different jointing techniques.
• Use specialized equipment (e.g., hydraulic crimping tools, cable cutters, heat shrink sleeves) to make joints and terminations.
• Cable Termination:
• Terminate electrical cables by stripping insulation, fitting connectors, and ensuring secure and reliable connections.
• Ensure the correct alignment, cutting, and joining of cables to ensure system performance.
• Testing & Fault Diagnosis:
• Perform testing of cable installations to ensure integrity and performance (e.g., continuity tests, insulation resistance tests).
• Diagnose faults in cables and joints, conduct inspections, and determine the necessary repairs or replacements.
• Health & Safety Compliance:
• Ensure all work is performed in accordance with local safety regulations, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Follow safe work practices and respond to emergency situations such as cable faults or electrical failures.
• Adhere to safety standards and take part in safety audits and risk assessments.
• Maintenance & Repairs:
• Identify, troubleshoot, and repair faults in cable networks, including underground and overhead lines.
• Carry out scheduled maintenance to prevent cable damage and ensure system reliability.
• Documentation & Reporting:
• Maintain accurate records of work completed, including test results, work performed, and any issues encountered.
• Report any hazards or issues that may compromise safety or service reliability to supervisors.
• Collaboration:
• Work closely with engineers, other technicians, and management to ensure timely completion of cable jointing tasks.
• Provide technical support and guidance to less experienced team members as needed.
• Other Duties:
• Carry out other tasks as directed by supervisors or management, such as cable pulling, trenching, or assisting with larger projects.

Skills and Qualifications:

• Technical Skills:
• Proficient in the installation, jointing, and termination of electrical and/or telecommunication cables.
• Knowledge of jointing techniques and equipment.
• Ability to use cable jointing tools and safety equipment.
• Experience:
• Previous experience in cable jointing, electrical installation, or a related field (typically 2+ years).
• Familiarity with working with different cable types and voltages.
• Experience with high-voltage cable jointing and termination may be required for some roles.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: ?25,000.00 - ?30,000.00 per month
