The Bar Supervisor oversees the day-to-day operations of the bar, ensuring smooth service, maintaining high standards, and providing excellent customer experiences. The role involves supervising bar staff, handling stock, managing customer relations, and ensuring adherence to health, safety, and licensing regulations. The Bar Supervisor ensures that the bar runs efficiently, the staff is motivated, and customers receive timely, friendly, and professional service.
Key Responsibilities:
• Staff Supervision & Training:
• Supervise and lead a team of bartenders, barbacks, and other bar staff.
• Train and mentor new staff members, ensuring they understand their roles, company standards, and customer service expectations.
• Delegate tasks to ensure efficient operations during busy periods.
• Conduct regular staff performance evaluations and provide feedback for improvement.
• Customer Service:
• Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction through excellent service and handling any complaints or issues promptly and professionally.
• Build and maintain relationships with regular patrons and encourage repeat business.
• Ensure the bar area is welcoming and maintains a positive atmosphere.
• Bar Operations:
• Oversee the preparation and serving of drinks, ensuring consistency and high quality of beverages.
• Maintain stock levels and assist with ordering supplies (alcohol, mixers, garnishes, glassware, etc.).
• Monitor the cleanliness and organization of the bar, storage areas, and equipment.
• Manage opening and closing procedures for the bar, including cashing up and ensuring all tills are balanced.
• Health, Safety, and Licensing:
• Ensure that all legal and safety regulations (e.g., responsible alcohol service, fire safety, sanitation) are followed.
• Maintain and ensure the cleanliness of bar equipment, tools, and facilities in line with health and safety standards.
• Check identification of customers to verify legal drinking age.
• Inventory Management:
• Track inventory levels and report on stock shortages or overages.
• Work with suppliers to manage deliveries, orders, and returns.
• Control waste and ensure stock is stored properly.
• Financial Responsibilities:
• Assist in managing the bar's budget and meet cost targets.
• Oversee cash handling, ensure accuracy in transactions, and minimize wastage.
• Help manage pricing strategies and promotions to optimize revenue.
• Team Collaboration:
• Work closely with other team members, such as servers, kitchen staff, and management, to ensure smooth and coordinated service.
• Participate in regular meetings to discuss business goals, targets, and strategies for improvement.
Qualifications & Skills:
• Previous experience in a bar or hospitality role, preferably in a supervisory or managerial position.
• Strong leadership and communication skills.
• In-depth knowledge of cocktails, spirits, and bar operations.
• Ability to manage high-pressure situations and multi-task effectively.
• Knowledge of relevant laws and regulations (e.g., alcohol licensing laws, health and safety standards).
• Excellent customer service skills and a friendly, approachable demeanor.
• Ability to handle financial transactions accurately and responsibly.
• Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
