AV & Networking Technician (Office Fit-Out) Summary
We are seeking a skilled and experienced AV & Networking Technician to join our team during the construction phase of a new office fit-out project. This role combines expertise in both Audio-Visual systems and Network infrastructure, focusing on the design, installation, and testing of all communication systems within the office space.
AV Systems:
• Install, configure, and test a wide range of AV equipment, including:
+ Video conferencing systems (e.g., Zoom Rooms, Microsoft Teams Rooms)
+ Digital signage displays
+ Projectors and screens
+ Audio systems (e.g., speakers, microphones, amplifiers)
+ Control systems (e.g., Crestron, AMX)
• Troubleshoot and resolve any technical issues that arise during installation or testing.
• Work closely with other trades (e.g., electricians, carpenters) to ensure proper integration of AV systems.
Networking:
• Network Design & Planning: Collaborate with architects and project managers to plan network layouts, cable runs, and equipment placement based on building blueprints and functional requirements.
• Physical Infrastructure Installation: Oversee the installation of network cabling (copper, fiber optic), conduit systems, and network racks within the office space.
• Hardware Deployment: Configure and install network devices like routers, switches, access points, firewalls, and other network hardware.
• Network Configuration: Set up network protocols, IP addressing schemes, VLANs, and security policies on network devices.
• Testing & Troubleshooting: Perform network connectivity tests, identifying and resolving any cabling or configuration issues during construction.
• Documentation: Maintain detailed network documentation including diagrams, cable layouts, device configurations, and project progress reports.
• Collaboration: Work closely with other construction teams (electrical, mechanical) to coordinate network infrastructure with other building systems.
Project Coordination:
• Attend project meetings and coordinate with the project manager and other stakeholders.
• Adhere to project timelines and budgets.
• Maintain accurate records of all work performed.
Qualifications:
• Proven experience as an AV & Networking Technician in a commercial construction environment, with a strong emphasis on network infrastructure installation and configuration.
• Strong understanding of AV and networking technologies, including:
+ IP networking protocols (TCP/IP, UDP, Ethernet, VLANs, routing protocols)
+ Audio-visual signal flow and standards (HDMI, DVI, VGA, etc.)
+ Network security best practices
• Expertise in network cabling standards and practices (copper, fiber optic)
• Proficiency in network hardware configuration (Cisco, Juniper, etc.)
• Experience with network monitoring and troubleshooting tools
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics.
• Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team. 1
• Possess relevant industry certifications (e.g., CompTIA Network+, AVIXA CTS, BICSI) - preferred.
