Associate Director, Business Development, Pharmaceuticals Summary: The Associate Director Business Development, Pharmaceuticals, will be responsible for business development to accelerate the global pharmaceutical pipeline for the APAC region. Specifically, the position will work within Pharmaceuticals Business development organization, and regional commercial and portfolio teams to: acquire targeted product assets via licensing or co-development opportunities ($5+M/deal), develop and monitor a list of potential acquisitions aligned with the strategy and be prepared to execute M&A activities for strategic opportunities when available, cultivate relationships with prospective partners in the region to source opportunities feeding other regions globally, and To develop robust portfolio for key target markets in APAC, specifically Japan, China and ANZ. The position will be representing Baxter externally to potential business partners and bankers and must be professional, responsive, and respectful. The position will be expected to follow the segment\xe2\x80\x99s disciplined, collaborative, and compliant process for evaluating and executing regional inorganic opportunities. This position requires relationship management with Baxter\xe2\x80\x99s internal and external partners; sound organizational skills; life-science industry product life-cycle experience and knowledge with the ability to manage many projects simultaneously and with multiple and evolving priorities. Potential deals may range from licensing or co-development of differentiated generics, including oral Oncology, potentially biosimilars for key markets, acquisition of late life-cycle brands, or acquisition of assets intended to augment development and/or manufacturing capability. Strong analytical, oral and written communication skills are key to this position. The successful candidate will be able to operate with a fair degree of independence with minimum oversight in a fast-paced environment. This person will also bring exceptional interpersonal skills, with the ability to build a positive and productive team environment and develop relationships across organizations. The ability to interact with legal, finance, commercial, scientific and technical staff at all levels of the company and with external partners is key. Responsibilities
Develop a network of potential partners and continuously generate leads for potential licensing or potential acquisition of portfolio.
Applying the segment licensing process, work with the global portfolio team and commercial teams to identify product targets, identify partner leads through both new and existing global partners, and collaborate with regional teams to develop cases.
Work with cross functional teams (including integrated supply chain, R&D, regulatory, medical, finance, and legal) to complete due diligence assessments of potential assets and/or acquisitions.)
Perform valuations of potential assets, develop term sheets, and with the legal team create deal documents (ex. NBO, LOI, APAs), and conduct negotiations with partners.
Ensure compliance with internal processes and procedures as well as all legal requirements.
Deliver performance measures agreed for the region, and individually for key countries within.
Share competitive intelligence within team, and cross-function while maintaining compliant to business and legal requirements for confidentiality.
Manage multiple, complex projects with broad scope simultaneously, assisting in prioritizing tasks, with clear communication to cross-functional collaborators and management.
Stay invested in initiatives towards achieving individual and team objectives.
Requirements The successful candidate for this position should have a bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree with MBA preferred, with 15 years of which, 5+ years in a business development/licensing for generic pharmaceuticals. A solid understanding of pharmaceutical development including working knowledge on regulatory and IP processes is required.
Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects with broad scope simultaneously.
