  • Be directly responsible for the management of a team who conduct financial crime risk investigations (including those related to fraud, money laundering, financing of terrorism, sanctions, bribery and corruption and tax evasion) in accordance with globally, regionally and or market defined standards.
  • Adhere to Group Financial Crime Investigations Instructions, ensuring they and the team are meeting the appropriate levels of quality and consistency; while ensuring they are appropriately trained and stay current with new trends and typologies.
  • Prioritise, allocate and manage cases in a timely manner and according to risk, making sound decisions based upon solid rational ensuring the financial crime risk is being robustly managed. Where necessary provide well-articulated written and verbal briefings in a timely manner to senior managers/ leaders, and other bodies as appropriate.
  • Identify and escalate opportunities to ensure investigations are as effective and efficient as possible.
  • May be required to interact effectively with country law enforcement, security and regulatory agencies, and financial intelligence units, in furtherance of public-private partnership, information sharing, and training initiatives, as well as on specific investigations of significance.
  • The jobholder will oversee a team of individuals who may be required to undertake multiple investigations into diverse aspects of HSBCs products, services and procedures. The jobholder must use their own judgement to prioritise a heavy and often complex workload, ensuring active and timely progression of all assigned matters across the team.
  • Processes and procedures within HSBC are constantly changing with the introduction of new systems and products. The jobholder will need to be flexible in approach. Different styles of investigation and reporting will be required, dependent on the nature and location of the incident. The jobholder must understand how varied systems and procedures operate, facilitating the identification of relevant issues, and use the acquired knowledge proactively to progress investigations.
  • The jobholder will form part of a team based geographically within the Centre of Excellence, supporting investigations in different markets. The jobholder will need to build the social and contextual knowledge necessary to appraise potential financial crime risks in the markets whose cases they support. The jobholder, together with the market based senior managers, will be responsible for driving initiatives to ensure the team act as one, regardless of geographic location.
  • The jobholder needs to be self-confident, and able to handle new situations. The jobholder must exercise a variety of people management, communication and inter-personal skills when progressing investigations, particularly in building relationships with peers and supervisors in other locations
Requirements
  • Experience working within a regulatory, investigative, or financial intelligence agency, or as a compliance manager within a global firm, in the financial services industry.
  • A degree of experience in mitigating the harms associated with the threat of financial crime at a strategic level.
  • An understanding of the current regulatory environment and expectations, relevant regulations, codes, and HSBC Group Standards, as well as their underlying purpose to mitigate risk to the financial system and provide information useful for the public sector to provide law enforcement and security.
  • Excellent verbal and written English skills.
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines & prioritize workload.
  • A degree of leadership experience and a strategic thinker.
  • Good analytical skills.
  • Experience of sanctions screening, policy or investigations is desirable.
  • An enquiring mind with a good eye for detail.
  • Experience in leading a Team (minimum 3 years).Existing Financial Crime experience (strongly preferred)
  • Experience of working in an investigative roleExperience and understanding of the HSBC Group, its culture, policies, and procedures.
