Job Description


The Assistant Professor of Physiology will be responsible for teaching undergraduate and graduate students, conducting research, and contributing to the academic community within the Department of Physiology. The role involves developing and delivering course content, mentoring students, and participating in departmental and institutional activities. The Assistant Professor is expected to establish a strong research program and publish in peer-reviewed journals. Key Responsibilities:Teaching:

  • Develop and deliver high-quality lectures, laboratory sessions, and seminars in physiology to undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Design and implement innovative teaching methods and materials that enhance student learning and engagement.
  • Prepare course syllabi, assignments, exams, and grading rubrics, ensuring alignment with departmental standards and accreditation requirements.
  • Provide academic advising and mentorship to students, guiding them in their academic and professional development.
Research:
  • Establish and maintain an independent research program in physiology, focusing on areas such as cellular physiology, neurophysiology, cardiovascular physiology, or other related fields.
  • Secure external funding through grants, fellowships, and other sources to support research activities.
  • Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals and present at national and international conferences.
  • Collaborate with colleagues within the department and across disciplines on interdisciplinary research projects.
Service:
  • Participate in departmental meetings, committees, and activities that contribute to the governance and development of the department and institution.
  • Engage in outreach activities that promote the field of physiology and enhance the visibility of the department within the scientific and local communities.
  • Mentor and supervise graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and research assistants involved in research projects.
Curriculum Development:
  • Contribute to the development and revision of the physiology curriculum to ensure it meets current scientific standards and educational goals.
  • Integrate current research and advancements in physiology into course content and teaching practices.
Professional Development:
  • Stay current with the latest advancements in physiology and related fields through continuous professional development.
  • Attend relevant conferences, workshops, and professional meetings to enhance teaching and research skills.
Qualifications:Education:
  • Ph.D. in Physiology or a closely related field (e.g., Biomedical Sciences, Neuroscience, etc.) from a recognized institution.
Experience:
  • Demonstrated experience in teaching physiology at the undergraduate or graduate level, with a record of effective teaching.
  • A strong background in physiological research, with a history of peer-reviewed publications and potential for securing external funding.
Skills:
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex physiological concepts to students of varying levels.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple responsibilities effectively.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, students, and other stakeholders in an academic environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Postdoctoral experience in a relevant area of physiology.
