Job Summary:

The Assistant Professor in Fashion and Design is responsible for teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in fashion design, fashion technology, textile science, pattern making, fashion history, and related subjects. The role also includes research, mentoring students, and contributing to the growth of the fashion and design department.

Key Responsibilities:

Teaching and Instruction:

Deliver lectures, seminars, and hands-on workshops in various areas of fashion and design. Develop and implement curricula for undergraduate and graduate courses. Assess and grade students' assignments, projects, and exams. Provide feedback and academic guidance to students. Supervise student projects, thesis work, and internships.

Research and Scholarly Activities:

Conduct research in the field of fashion design, sustainable fashion, textile innovation, or related areas. Publish research findings in academic journals and present at conferences. Seek external funding for research projects and contribute to the advancement of the field.

Student Mentoring and Advising:

Offer academic counseling and mentorship to students, guiding them on career opportunities and personal development. Assist students in their professional growth, portfolio development, and industry connections.

Curriculum Development:

Assist in the design and continuous improvement of course content and teaching methodologies. Incorporate new trends, technologies, and sustainability principles in fashion into the curriculum.

Collaboration and Service:

Work collaboratively with other faculty members and departments for interdisciplinary projects and events. Organize and participate in fashion shows, exhibitions, workshops, and other department-related activities. Contribute to departmental meetings and university committees.

Qualifications:

Education:

A Master's degree or higher in Fashion Design, Fashion Technology, Textile Design, or a related field (Ph.D. preferred).

Experience:

At least 2-3 years of teaching experience in a higher education setting (can vary depending on the institution). Practical industry experience in fashion design, textiles, or fashion business is highly desirable.

Skills:

Strong knowledge of fashion design software (e.g., Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, CAD systems). In-depth understanding of fashion trends, fabric types, garment construction, and textile technologies. Excellent communication, presentation, and organizational skills. Ability to mentor and inspire students. Research skills and a track record of academic publishing (for more senior roles).

Additional Requirements:

Knowledge of sustainable fashion practices and emerging design trends. Ability to integrate technology into the classroom, such as virtual learning tools and digital design methods. Willingness to participate in professional development activities and ongoing research. Engagement in professional networks, industry partnerships, and collaborations.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in interdisciplinary collaboration with other fields like business, marketing, or arts. Familiarity with fashion marketing, fashion merchandising, or fashion entrepreneurship. Strong connections with industry professionals and potential employers for students.
