ABOUT THE ROLE:
This role is part of the Strategy team in Sports Ad Sales. The key function of this role is to help drive long-term strategies to create new assets, increase price yield, create insights based on viewership & category buying behaviour, recommend the value proposition/pitch to the frontline sales team etc. To develop deep understanding to the Media Rights Agreements (MRA) signed with Sports bodies and help identify monetisation opportunities in addition to the compliance of the MRA & related laws. The key tasks involve scenario modelling, budgeting, creating sales pitches, case studies, tracking sales performance, streamlining pre-sales process, tracking industry's emerging trends & working on new initiatives like new product features etc.
CONTEXT:
Star Sports is the largest sports broadcaster in the country, and we have over the years exponentially grown the reach and engagement on sports viewership across the nation. We own some of the leading marquee properties in the country such as Indian Premier League, Pro Kabaddi League, Premier League, ICC Cricket, etc. The incumbent in this role will provide a consultative strategic perspective to emerging and immediate priorities for the sports business, and devise alternatives and solutions to leverage the impact of these marquee properties for revenue maximization and business growth.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Long Term Strategy
• Identify business priorities for sports properties and conduct in-depth research and use a business solutioning mindset to find solves and strategic alternatives
• Long range planning for devising and recommending strategies for monetization of sports events
• Scenario building and modelling for estimating and planning revenues in the long term
• Forecasting the growth and challenges to the sports business and properties - create forecast plans based on historical data, emerging trends and market information for the sports business
• Deep analysis of past data to build models and make recommendations on pricing, assets to be monetized, etc
• Prepare case studies including insights from brand research, business KPIs, media deliveries etc. for effective sales presentations and onboard clients
• Keep track of the various competing properties available as options for clients to invest, prepare a strong proposition of our sport properties to help build better monetisation onboard new clients
• Working on new products that can add to the portfolio of offerings to advertisers
Sales Enablement
• Undertake regular analysis of client spend and competitive activity to help the sales team improve revenue performance
• Display good understanding of legal contracts to be able to interpret and explain to the frontline sales team, the obligations placed on us by the licensor of the sports rights in respect of the sales process
• Support creation of pitch and evaluation of the pitch of annual deals and mega deals
• Manage tracking of deals, pricing inventory through the MINT Sports system
PERFORMANCE MEASURES:
• Own and support the overall revenue target
• Structural approach and inputs that lead to monetization opportunities
• Providing competitive intelligence and client inputs to help frontline sales in their approach with clients
• Providing insights on past sales trends and identifying and highlighting opportunities for improvement in monetization
• Advertiser/ brand wise analysis and create insights
• Collaboration and stakeholder management internally
QUALIFICATIONS:
• MBA (Premier/ Tier 1 management institute
• 3-4 years of post-MBA experience
