They must also be able to move forward in the design process with different levels of ambiguity and incompleteness. This person must enjoy sharing knowledge and skills and working together as a team towards a common goal. This role is fulfilled by understanding the design life cycle and determining the best learning platform for optimum learning transfer. The instructional designer will develop interactive lesson plans, technically advanced web based modules and engaging virtual classrooms for all business units.Key AccountabilitiesCollaboration/Team Work/Continuous Improvement

  • Developing a collection of assets and templates
  • Ensuring project work such as code and graphics are checked in on a daily basis
  • Participate frequently in brainstorming sessions with team and working groups
  • Support and foster skill development within the team

  • Actively taking part in problem solving meetings and consulting sessions on training requirements.
Design/Development
  • Ability to quickly familiarize themselves with new project content
  • Ability to formulate key questions regarding content/design and work with SMEs to resolve
  • Develop highly detailed WBT storyboards and ILT design layouts
  • Creating Videos
  • Use knowledge and skills of Adult learning principles to create interactive and effective learning platforms based on complexity of project content
  • Ensure that all components of design align and support the programs learning objectives and program strategy
  • Develop effective knowledge testing throughout programs using platforms such as quizzes, learning activities, decision based scenarios and case studies
  • Develops curriculum on time, on budget and inclusive of all content.
  • Strong knowledge and skills in design development using third party authoring tools
  • Solid understanding of which authoring tools support specific delivery methods
  • Applying the most appropriate instructional design approaches to produce highly relevant, engaging and interactive content for each course/program in a ILT or WBT
  • Ability to troubleshoot technical issues and determine solutions
  • Publishing content using a number of different file types
  • Strong knowledge on publishing content and courses on the Breeze server and LMS
  • Testing published links to ensure functionality and reporting
Scope and ContributionThis role is accountable for the analysis of content provided by business partners and will also identify outstanding questions /clarification as it relates back to the learning objectives outlined in the training proposal. The curriculum designer is also accountable for building out web based modules and a designs for all instructor led curriculums to be veted and signed off by the business before curriculum development begins.The authoring tools used for curriculum development require the designer to have a good understanding to be able to determine the best medium for delivery based on the content and audience.Need to have

The curriculum designer must also have a good working knowledge of design methodologies and how to incorporate them effectively into a blended modality program.

Decision Making & Impact
  • The curriculum designer is accountable for making decisions regarding artistic vision of curriculum builds and how to transform content into engaging and interactive experiences for the learners. This is required on both WBT and ILT platforms. If the design outcome does not successfully achieve the training goals of the business there will be a negative impact directly linked back to our customer experience.
  • The designer will also make decisions around coding and advanced actions to be utilized to enhance training programs.
  • A common brand strategy with applicable templates have been built to assist the designers in their curriculum development ensuring a consistent look and feel is delivered by all designers.
  • Any decisions that fall outside the scope of the training proposal, impact timelines or are identified as risks to milestones are brought to Design Manager immediately with recommendations and impacts that will need to be addressed.
AutonomyThe Curriculum Designer role requires minimal daily direction or instruction. This role will be required to communicate on a daily/weekly basis with the project working groupThe designer is accountable for partnering with the SMEs assigned to the project to gather content and work through any gaps or questions required throughout the design development.Complexity and InnovationThe Instructional Design role requires a thorough understanding of the following:

The Instructional Designer role is continually being challenged to come up with new and innovative ways to build and deliver successful learning experiences. Being able to understand the goals and needs of the business and then matching it with a blended program is a major responsibility for this role.The designer is expected to be able to push the boundaries of all the authoring tools. This may include advanced coding and actions as well as using supplemental utilities to work around tool limitations.Key Relationships & CommunicationKey relationships are with business SMEs, departmental trainers and fellow designers that are part of the design project group.All relationships must be maintained on a continuous basis. Most relationships will have been previously developed and are nourished at the project lead level.In this role the designers are also required to maintain sensitivity around confidential projects and ensure that content is only shared with those who have signed a NDA.Education/ Certification Requirements and Relevant ExperienceSecondary Education:
  • College Diploma / University Degree with 2+ years of design experience
  • Adult learning diploma or equivalent
Work Experience 2 -4 years specifically in:
  • Facilitation

Skills & KnowledgeThe instructional designer role requires a solid understanding of adult learning principles, the design life cycle and experience using a number of different design technologies.
