Champak Magazine, a renowned publication dedicated to children's literature and entertainment, is seeking a dynamic and creative individual to join our editorial team as an Assistant Editor. This position plays a crucial role in shaping the content and digital presence of Champak Magazine, ensuring it continues to captivate and engage its young audience. This is an exciting opportunity for editors to work at the intersection of digital and print for a legacy brand in the field of publishing.
Responsibilities:
Print:
• Content Development:
+ Contribute to creating and developing engaging and age-appropriate content for Champak Magazine.
+ Collaborate with writers, illustrators, and other team members to curate compelling stories, articles, and features for magazines and books.
• Editing:
+ Edit and proofread written content to ensure high editorial standards and adherence to Champak's style and tone.
+ Work closely with contributors to provide constructive feedback for improvement.
• Story Selection:
+ Assist in the selection and curation of stories that align with Champak's themes and values.
+ Stay updated on trends in children's literature to ensure content remains relevant and appealing.
Digital:
• Online Content Management:
+ Oversee the digital presence of Champak Magazine by curating, managing and updating content on the website.
+ Ensure that online content is engaging, accessible, and optimized for SEO.
• Social Media Content Management:
+ Ideate, create, and edit written content for social media channels, and engage with the online community.
+ Develop a consistent written communication strategy for social media channels.
• Digital Innovation:
+ Explore and implement new digital tools, formats, and interactive features to enhance the online reading experience for young audiences.
Team Collaboration:
• Coordination:
+ Collaborate with the editorial team, marketing team, designers, and other departments to ensure seamless workflow and production of high-quality content.
• Communication:
+ Maintain effective communication with contributors, guiding them on editorial requirements and deadlines.
+ Attend editorial meetings to brainstorm ideas and contribute to the overall editorial strategy.
Qualifications:
• Master's degree in Liberal arts, English Literature, History, Politics, or a related field.
• Minimum 3 years of experience in editing and content creation, preferably in a children's literature or media context.
• Strong writing and editing skills with a keen eye for detail.
• Familiarity with digital content management systems and web publishing.
• Knowledge of SEO best practices and social media management.
• Experience in book publishing would be a plus.
• Passion for children's literature and understanding of the target audience.
