### Job Overview
The Dialysis Technician plays a critical role in providing direct patient care and support to individuals with kidney failure who require dialysis treatment. Working under the supervision of a registered nurse or physician, the Dialysis Technician is responsible for setting up, monitoring, and maintaining dialysis machines, as well as providing compassionate care to patients during their treatment sessions. This position requires strong technical skills, attention to detail, and a dedication to patient safety and comfort.
### Key Responsibilities
Dialysis Machine Operation and Maintenance
• Prepare and operate hemodialysis machines according to established protocols and safety standards.
• Inspect and maintain equipment to ensure proper functionality; troubleshoot issues as needed.
• Perform routine cleaning and disinfection of dialysis machines and other equipment after each use.
Patient Preparation and Monitoring
• Prepare patients for dialysis treatments by explaining procedures and addressing any concerns.
• Take and record vital signs, including blood pressure, pulse, and weight, before, during, and after treatments.
• Monitor patients throughout the treatment, promptly reporting any changes or complications to the nursing staff.
Technical Support and Record-Keeping
• Maintain accurate records of treatment information and patient data, including machine settings and medication administration.
• Assist in updating patient care plans and documenting all procedures according to healthcare regulations and facility policies.
Patient Care and Comfort
• Assist patients with their needs, ensuring a comfortable and supportive environment during dialysis treatments.
• Provide compassionate care, demonstrating respect and empathy for patients and their families.
• Educate patients on dialysis processes and promote adherence to dietary and fluid restrictions.
Safety and Compliance
• Adhere to all safety protocols, infection control standards, and regulatory requirements.
• Follow emergency procedures in the event of medical complications during dialysis.
• Participate in quality assurance initiatives and attend regular training on new dialysis procedures and equipment.
### Qualifications
• Education : High school diploma or GED. Completion of an accredited dialysis technician training program preferred.
• Certification : Certification as a Certified Clinical Hemodialysis Technician (CCHT) or equivalent is preferred or required by state regulations.
• Experience : Prior experience in a dialysis or healthcare setting is highly desirable but not mandatory.
