Job Summary:The Depot Manager in the chemical industry is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of a chemical storage and distribution depot. This role involves managing staff, ensuring safety and regulatory compliance, optimizing logistics, and maintaining inventory control to ensure efficient and safe handling and distribution of chemical products.Key Responsibilities:
  • Operations Management:
  • Oversee all depot operations, including receiving, storing, and dispatching chemical products.
  • Ensure that depot activities are carried out efficiently and in compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Implement and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) for all depot activities.
  • Safety and Compliance:
  • Ensure that all depot operations adhere to health, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Conduct regular safety audits and inspections, addressing any issues promptly.
  • Maintain accurate records of safety incidents and implement corrective actions.
  • Ensure that all staff are trained in handling hazardous materials and emergency response procedures.
  • Staff Management:
  • Recruit, train, and supervise depot staff, ensuring optimal performance and development.
  • Schedule and manage staff shifts to ensure adequate coverage of all depot operations.
  • Conduct performance reviews and provide feedback and coaching to staff.
  • Inventory Control:
  • Monitor and manage inventory levels to ensure availability of products and minimize waste.
  • Implement inventory control systems and conduct regular stock checks.
  • Coordinate with procurement and production departments to forecast demand and manage stock levels.
  • Logistics and Distribution:
  • Coordinate inbound and outbound logistics, ensuring timely and accurate delivery of chemical products.
  • Optimize transportation routes and methods to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
  • Maintain relationships with carriers and third-party logistics providers.
  • Customer Service:
  • Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction by maintaining accurate and timely order fulfillment.
  • Address and resolve customer complaints and issues related to depot operations.
  • Collaborate with sales and customer service teams to meet customer requirements.
  • Continuous Improvement:
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement best practices.
  • Lead initiatives to improve operational efficiency, safety, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Stay informed about industry trends and innovations to enhance depot operations.
Qualifications:
  • Education:
  • Bachelors degree in logistics, supply chain management, business administration, or a related field; advanced degree is a plus.
  • Experience:
  • 5+ years of experience in depot, warehouse, or logistics management, preferably in the chemical industry.
  • Proven track record of managing operations and leading teams in a fast-paced environment.
  • Skills:
  • Strong knowledge of logistics and inventory management.
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective leadership and team management abilities.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in using logistics and inventory management software.
  • Technical Competencies:
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements for handling and storing hazardous materials (OSHA, EPA, etc.).
  • Understanding of health, safety, and environmental regulations.
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to work in a warehouse environment, including standing and walking for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift and move packages up to 50 pounds.
  • Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
Work Environment:
  • Warehouse and depot environment with exposure to chemicals and industrial equipment.
  • Regular interaction with logistics, production, and customer service teams.
  • Potential exposure to hazardous materials, requiring adherence to safety protocols.
