Job Title: Assistant Chinese Chef
Job Summary:
We are seeking a talented and passionate Assistant Chinese Chef to join our kitchen team. The ideal candidate will assist in preparing a wide range of traditional and contemporary Chinese dishes, maintaining kitchen organization, and ensuring high-quality food standards. The Assistant Chinese Chef will work closely with the Head Chef and other kitchen staff to deliver exceptional culinary experiences for our guests.
Key Responsibilities:
• Assist in food preparation : Support the Head Chef in preparing ingredients, sauces, and dishes according to recipes, including meats, seafood, vegetables, and noodles.
• Cooking and plating : Prepare and cook various Chinese dishes such as stir-fries, dim sum, soups, and traditional rice or noodle dishes, ensuring quality, consistency, and presentation.
• Maintain kitchen cleanliness : Keep the kitchen, cooking equipment, and utensils clean and organized in accordance with food safety standards.
• Assist in inventory management : Monitor and maintain stock levels of ingredients and supplies, help with ordering and storage to ensure freshness and availability.
• Collaborate with the kitchen team : Work closely with other chefs, kitchen staff, and servers to ensure smooth and efficient kitchen operations.
• Adhere to safety standards : Follow proper food handling, hygiene, and safety procedures to maintain a safe working environment.
• Monitor food quality : Ensure that food is prepared and cooked according to company standards, and suggest improvements for menu items or preparation techniques.
• Support menu development : Assist in the creation of new dishes and modify existing ones under the guidance of the Head Chef.
• Handle special dietary needs : Be knowledgeable about dietary restrictions (e.g., vegetarian, gluten-free) and ensure those requests are accommodated properly.
Qualifications:
• Proven experience as a cook or kitchen assistant, ideally in a Chinese kitchen or Asian cuisine setting.
• Strong knowledge of Chinese cooking techniques, ingredients, and regional dishes.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and multitask efficiently.
• Basic knife skills and familiarity with traditional Chinese cooking tools (wok, cleaver, etc.).
• Knowledge of food safety and sanitation standards.
• Ability to work well within a team and take direction from the Head Chef.
• Strong attention to detail and passion for high-quality food preparation.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Culinary certification or degree from a recognized culinary institution.
• Previous experience working in Chinese or Asian cuisine restaurants.
• Understanding of menu planning, cost control, and kitchen management.
