• Key Responsibilities:
• Melting Point Determination (Aluminium Alloys and Materials):
Qualifications:
• Education:
• Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, Metallurgy, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
• Additional training or certifications in materials science or spectroscopy is advantageous.
• Experience:
• Previous experience in a chemistry or materials science lab, particularly with aluminium alloys or metals, is highly preferred.
• Hands-on experience with melting point determination, spectrometry (XRF, AAS, ICP-OES), or other analytical techniques for alloy composition analysis.
• Familiarity with thermal analysis techniques such as DSC or TGA for materials characterization is a plus.
• Understanding of materials testing standards and industry regulations (e.g., ASTM standards) is desirable.
• Skills:
• Proficiency in operating spectrometric equipment and thermal analysis instruments.
• Strong analytical skills for interpreting complex spectroscopic and thermal data.
• Knowledge of metallurgical testing, including hardness testing, tensile testing, and microstructural analysis of metals.
• Excellent attention to detail, accuracy in data collection, and problem-solving abilities.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills to document and report findings clearly and effectively.
• Familiarity with laboratory management systems or data analysis software.
Working Conditions:
• Full-time position with standard working hours in a laboratory environment.
• Regular exposure to laboratory chemicals, metals, and equipment.
• Occasional extended hours or weekend work based on project deadlines or testing requirements.
• Adherence to all safety protocols, including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Perform accurate and precise melting point determinations for various aluminium alloys and related materials.
• Operate melting point apparatus and thermal analysis equipment, including Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) or Thermal Gravimetric Analysis (TGA), to measure phase transitions.
• Record and interpret melting data, ensuring consistency with expected alloy compositions and thermal properties.
• Troubleshoot issues with melting point equipment and work to optimize testing conditions.
• Spectrometric Analysis (Aluminium and Alloy Characterization):
• Operate and maintain spectrometric instruments, such as X-ray Fluorescence (XRF), Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (AAS), or Inductively Coupled Plasma Optical Emission Spectroscopy (ICP-OES), for the analysis of aluminium content and alloy composition.
• Prepare samples and conduct tests to identify trace elements, impurities, and alloying elements in aluminium and related materials.
• Analyze spectrometric data to determine the precise chemical composition of aluminium samples, and ensure results are within required specifications.
• Assist in the development of new methods for spectrometric testing of aluminium and alloys, ensuring quality control and adherence to industry standards.
• Material Characterization:
• Perform additional physical testing on aluminium samples, such as hardness testing, tensile strength measurements, and microstructural analysis.
• Assist in preparing aluminium samples for metallographic analysis (e.g., polishing, etching, and microscopy).
• Work with metallurgists to correlate melting and spectrometric data with the mechanical properties and performance of aluminium products.
• Lab Maintenance and Safety:
• Maintain and calibrate all lab equipment, ensuring instruments like spectrometers and thermal analyzers are properly functioning and calibrated.
• Monitor and inventory laboratory supplies, including chemicals, metals, and consumables for spectrometric and melting point tests.
• Follow stringent safety protocols when handling chemicals and metals in the laboratory.
• Ensure proper disposal of hazardous materials in compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
• Documentation and Reporting:
• Document all test procedures, results, and observations in laboratory notebooks or digital systems, ensuring clear traceability and data integrity.
• Prepare detailed technical reports based on test results and assist in presenting findings to R&D or quality control teams.
• Maintain accurate and organized records of all testing protocols and results, contributing to the creation and improvement of standard operating procedures (SOPs).
• Collaboration and Support:
• Collaborate with materials scientists, metallurgists, and quality control personnel on aluminium-related projects.
• Provide support in troubleshooting and solving material performance issues for new aluminium products or alloys.
• Assist in training junior lab technicians or interns in lab procedures and equipment use.
