RAAF Base Edinburgh provides a secure base for Air Force and Army units to support Air and Expeditionary Operations for the Australian Defence Force.
The Air Force Familiarisation Program gives secondary students an exposure to a broad range of roles, careers and opportunities with the Royal Australian Air Force and Joint Service units.
Students will visit and/or hear presentations from a number of areas and personnel that include: aircrew, aeronautical and other engineers, aircraft and equipment maintenance workshops (mechanical and electrical), Defence science and technology, radar surveillance operators, military working dogs, logistics, aircraft life support, aviation medicine, health centre, aircraft research and development, ground defence, air traffic control, communications/IT, Air Force intelligence operators and analysts, air movements, flying squadrons, trades people, flight and training simulators and ADF Recruitment.
Activities can include: physical training (exercise), look through P8 aircraft, experience the aircraft flying and maintenance simulation trainers, teamwork and leadership exercises, marching skills, experience aircraft life support equipment in the base swimming pool.
Participants will have the opportunity to speak with Air Force staff from a range of areas for information about their roles, careers and experiences in Defence. Students who are interested in a career with Air Force are encouraged to apply. Lunch will be provided each day.
