Job Summary:
The Academic Counselor is responsible for providing academic advising and support to students, helping them navigate their educational paths, and ensuring they meet their academic goals. This role involves working collaboratively with students, faculty, and staff to enhance the overall academic experience and promote student success.
Key Responsibilities:
• Academic Advising: Provide one-on-one and group advising sessions to assist students with course selection, degree requirements, and academic policies.
• Goal Setting: Help students set realistic academic and career goals based on their interests, strengths, and aspirations.
• Monitoring Progress: Track student progress and academic performance, providing interventions and support as needed.
• Workshops and Programs: Develop and facilitate workshops on study skills, time management, and career planning.
• Resource Coordination: Connect students with appropriate resources, including tutoring, mental health services, and career counseling.
• Data Management: Maintain accurate records of student interactions and academic progress for reporting and assessment purposes.
• Collaboration: Work with faculty and staff to identify students in need of additional support and create strategies to enhance student retention and success.
• Policy Communication: Stay informed about academic policies and changes, communicating relevant information to students effectively.
Qualifications:
• Education: Master's degree in counseling, education, psychology, or a related field; relevant certifications are a plus.
• Experience: Previous experience in academic advising, counseling, or a related field preferred.
• Skills:
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
• Knowledge of academic programs and resources available to students.
• Proficiency in data management and student information systems.
