Job Summary
The Academic Counsellor plays a vital role in guiding students through their academic journey by providing personalized advice, planning educational pathways, and helping them achieve their educational goals. They ensure that students are aware of resources, policies, and opportunities while addressing any academic concerns.
Key Responsibilities
• Student Guidance :
• Assist students in selecting courses, programs, and electives aligned with their goals and interests.
• Provide information on career pathways, internships, and co-curricular activities.
• Guide students on university policies, academic calendars, and program requirements.
• Academic Support :
• Monitor academic progress and suggest interventions where necessary.
• Address concerns such as underperformance, course changes, or workload management.
• Refer students to tutoring, workshops, or counseling services when needed.
• Admissions Assistance :
• Guide prospective students on admissions requirements and processes.
• Conduct orientation sessions and workshops for newly admitted students.
• Documentation & Reporting :
• Maintain detailed records of counselling sessions and student progress.
• Prepare reports on common student challenges and recommend improvements to academic programs.
• Collaboration :
• Work closely with faculty, administration, and student services teams to ensure a holistic support system.
• Participate in outreach activities to promote academic programs.
• Student Development :
• Conduct seminars on time management, study skills, and stress management.
• Encourage participation in extracurricular and leadership opportunities.
Qualifications
• Education : Bachelor's or Master's degree in Education, Counseling, Psychology, or a related field.
• Experience : Prior experience in academic advising, counseling, or student services is preferred.
• Skills :
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to assess student needs and provide constructive guidance.
• Organizational and problem-solving abilities.
• Proficiency in using student management systems and office software.
