Job Description
n academic counselor, also known as an education or guidance counselor, helps students with their academic, personal, and career goals. Their responsibilities include:
• Academic advising : Provide advice on course selection, majors, programs, and academic resources
• Career guidance : Help students with career prospects, including applying to postsecondary programs, applying for fellowships or internships, and alumni networking
• Academic success counseling : Help students with study skills, time management, goal setting, test-taking strategies, and test anxiety management
• Transitioning to college : Help students transition from high school to college, including advising on the application process, financial aid options, and navigating the culture
• Mental health and well-being : Help students develop coping strategies to manage stress, anxiety, and other challenges
• Assessments : Administer assessments to gauge students' capabilities, personality traits, and interests
• Communication : Communicate with students, staff, parents, and community members
