About MISAAL FOUNDATION

Misaal (‘example’, a ‘model’, ‘paragon’, in Hindustani) is a national network of activists, volunteers, community based organisations, social enterprises, research centres, advocacy groups, and concerned citizens’ groups, local and national, working with and for marginalized communities and other weaker sections, minorities, dalits and adivasis – to enable change. Misaal is housed in Aman Biradari – Centre for Equity Studies, New Delhi. Founded in 2014, by a group of concerned citizens, Misaal evolved out of the concern that certain marginalised communities lack the benefit of a progressive development-oriented civil society, the kind – made up of grassroots activists, community based organisations and state and national pro-poor networks and platforms – that has been found to enable positive change for other marginalized groups. Led by activists, women and men, from different social backgrounds, Misaal seeks to channelize and give shape to the energies of this collective, into an actionable programme of interventions, which would add up to enabling individuals and groups from the excluded communities bring about change in their lives. We are thinking nationally, but have prioritized regions and states with the highest concentrations religious minorities, dalits and adivasi women and men, for immediate focus.
